The Moorland Games are an annual competition of traditional Moorlandic sports. Many of these sports are specific to Moorland and not practiced as broadly as other sports, such as rugby and soccer. The games combine a series of both performance entertainment, such as dancing and bag-pipe bands, along with competitive sports such as the caber toss, weight throw, stone put and hammer throw. The games are primarily held in Newcastle-Upon-Eastmoor, but have also been known to rotate to other cities in the kingdom in order to highlight a region's particular niche for a sport. The games are an important tradition in Moorland and a major source of pride for the people of the kingdom. Their popularity has been helped by the advent of televised games, which have been broadcast abroad, beginning about a decade ago, bringing international attention to the competition and increased tourist revenue.
