Automatican conflict

The Automatican conflict was a persistent low-level civil conflict between the Governorate of Absentien and the Governorate of Nordland for control of the Automaticas, the Amokolian islands on the northern coast of Benacia which had been overlooked during the administrative reforms in Elluenuueq following the deposition of Adam al-Osman. Local actors were allowed to pursue the conflict unimpeded as neither Ardashirshahr nor Chryse showed any particular interest in the fate of the islands, save that tribute payments were received and that the BUDF legion garrisoned in cantonments at Anun was left undisturbed.

Background

The Automaticas had, with the exception of New London, remained mostly under loyalist control during the Second Elwynnese Civil War, sparing the islands of the worst of the conflict, and particularly from the consequences of the Scouring. As such, with the establishment of the Benacian Union in 1698 AN, the isles had been placed under the relatively more benign administration of the Central Governorate, which bisected the north in order to prevent Upper Elwynn and Amokolia from recovering sufficient strength in order to renew the civil war. The Amokolian mainland however was to endure the full horror of the occupation regime established under the Circuit of the General Government, and the Governorate of Absentien was forced into an economically and societally regressed condition in order to facilitate the destruction of the Amokolian national identity and the relentless focus on the elevated levels of resource extraction from the formerly rebel territories required to pay off hefty war indemnities. Whilst the subjects living in the Automaticas suffered less than their counterparts on the mainland, they did nonetheless also have to endure the extinction of the Amokolian language and cultural identity, as mandated by the High Presidium of the Benacian Union.

Aftermath

The conflict would be concluded during 1728 AN by the "Arbitration at La Terre", which would see the Governorate of the Automaticas established within the Circuit of the General Government.
