The Dream Lives On - Establishment of the Nelaga Territories
Friends, micronationalists, and peers of all walks of life, I, Harvey, address you as officially part of our hobby once again. For I now have my own micronation to call home after three and a half years of floating in the winds. And what a micronation it is to become! My brothers and sisters, I am proud to announce the formation of the Nelaga Territories on this December 23rd, 2008, which is by no coincidence also my day of birth.
Yes, this is what all the oddities have been about lately. We’ve been planning the framework to this country for about three weeks. This is what that Day of the Eagle storyline is about (but that’s just the beginning, oh yes, read on!) This is what the removal of Jasonia from the Apollo Foundation was in preparation of. This should come to absolutely no shock to most of you, especially considering how many people were explicitly told about the project in the past couple days. If you didn’t see this coming by now, you either have no interest in Micran affairs or need to fire the leaders of your spy programs.
But there is one misconception going around that I would like to clear up. Let’s get one thing straight before going any further: the Nelaga Territories is not a revival of the Flying Islands of Jasonia.
The reason it is not a revival of Jasonia is because such a revival is not possible. Jasonia has been dead and buried for over seven years. Although through things like an extremely reliable website host and a few RPGMaker games the “spirit†has been kept alive this entire time in one form or another, the fact is that trying to live entirely in the past rather than the present is an exercise in futility and no way to run a micronation.
I did a lot of mucking around in the histories of failed micronations before starting this project. One of the major consistencies I noticed is that, in any revival attempt, the former founder tried to dig up as much of the old country as possible and essentially told people to love it or to get out. I plan to do no such railroading. I will not dig up a lot of pseudo-Jasonian politics and philosophy and tell everyone they have to believe in it. Some historically pleasing parts of the past, sure. But not a whole government. I have no intention of barring the doors to anyone based on the fact they weren’t around for the turn of the millennium and have no interest in our past.
But just because I won’t be leading with a heavy hand doesn’t mean that I won’t be an active part of the Nelaga Territories’s protection and growth. We shall be constructed and molded by the will of the citizens here, and I am planning on being a major part in that process. I have strong beliefs about what succeeds and fails in micronations and will pursue my agenda towards that end, but will do so through discussion and debate rather than just laying down the law.
Though not a revival, I will consider the Nelaga Territories as a spiritual successor to the Flying Islands of Jasona. While they will not be hard-coded into law (at least not by me alone!) many ideals I had way back when still stand and I intend to pursue them again with a renewed vigor. I hope that the nation will be a shining example of how a stable democracy can function in a micronational community. With patience and negotiation I hope to be able to claim the same territory Jasonia once held on the MCS map. I intend to boldly confront micronational questions that many modern nations have turned their back on since the olden days. I plan to archive and preserve the history of this great hobby and keep this information readily available. And I plan to make alliances and friendships with other micronations that have similar agendas to help unify this hobby and take us all to the next level of micronatinalism.
One thing definitely hasn’t changed since the time of Jasonia. Freedom, glory, and success is still out there for those who would strive for it. And this time, we don’t need fancy science fiction to reach for the sky. Though we might end up wanting that anyway.
The storyline started in the Day of the Eagle is the formation of one of the largest recwars Micras has seen in all its days and is an elaborate presentation of our declaration of independence. It’s okay if you want to oppose us in the recwar; just don’t expect to stop us. We will be starting actual hostilities in a few days – I’m not entirely sure when, but it will be after the 25th so people are less swamped with burdens. If you want to join as a nation or an individual, it’s definitely not too late to jump right in. Just be sure to keep things civil and clean; this is storycrafting among friends and allies all across the hobby, regardless of what our in-character personas do.
Our forums are here: http://bill3000.net/nelaga/index.php . We have no website yet. It's on the list! Gimme a break; it's our first minute as a real nation.
I invite you all to discuss the war at on our forums. Actually, I invite you to explore them fully. As of this announcement, the government is established, so we’re ready to begin operations. Bring on the foreign dignitaries! There are many issues I wish to discuss with the international community; economics, mutual defense and recwaring standards, education, and archiving, to name a few. It’s time to reestablish some camaraderie that seems to have fallen apart. I mean, we don’t even have a good YAMO anymore. Sheesh.
And, of course, if you think a technology-loving, fully-disclosed democracy is your thing, we’d love to have you as a citizen. The framework is in place but very few actual laws which means almost everything goes at this stage. No doubt the nation will be shaped drastically in the next few weeks by the proposals we pass. If you want to get involved in a micronation where you’d have a fresh start, or just like our theming, our doors are open. No dual citizenship restrictions apply.
My friends, it’s good to be back! I will see you around; you can be sure of it.

*bows* Though I've known for a while, I'm honoured to live to see this day.
Long live Nelaga!

I had suspicions when I saw you removed the FIOJ from the Foundation.
